Sun Arms2nd Position Last night was Elise’s last Jazz dance lesson for the Summer. Tonight I took her to ballet and she posed for me to take her picture to show everyone. She has one more ballet class. It’s amazing how, as her parent, when I watch her dance, one moment I find myself thinking “Wow! She is so good at that, soo much better than the other girls, look how she pays attention and remembers what to do. She could really excel at this, I need to get her into real lessons.” And then the next minute I think “Look at her running around and goofing off and messing up the pose, why isn’t she getting it, she’s not really paying attention she’s more interested in the tape on the floor than perfecting her leaps.” Silly parents. Overly proud and overly critical at the same time. I’m glad she’s having fun!

Well, that’s just natural lol… we think they are amazing but we also REALLY notice when they are not doing what they should. She looks so sweet and cute! Can’t wait to see you SAT!!!

Nice little essay. Yes, that’s how parents think! Hopefully in the child’s eye the proud/encouraging parent will always outshine the critical parent. The trick is that different kids can tolerate different amounts–and even that can vary widely.
