OK, I’ll blog more about this past week later–got plently of blogworthy material! But for now, I just had to write about Elise. She is starting Kindergarten this Thursday. Tuesday evening is “Meet the teacher night.” There is a lot of paprework I had to fill out to take on Tuesday for both Jacob and Elise’s teachers, mostly tell me about your kid kinda stuff. But one of the questions was what name do you want me to call your child by (and then teach her to spell and write and basically label her for the rest of her youth at least)? And instead of just writing Elise, since she was right beside me when I was filling out the papers I asked her what she would like to be called. She said that she would like to be called by her nickname (which she claims as a nickname even though she has NEVER gone by it) and then she told me how she wanted it spelled and everything! So, starting Thursday we will have an Elly. (Which ironically is what I wanted to call her all along–it’s part of why I named her Elise in the first place, but now, it feels like a BIG change.) Luckily, she has told us that we can still call her Elise if we want.

You know we're sitting on four million pounds of fuel, one nuclear weapon and a thing that has 270,000 moving parts built by the lowest bidder. Makes you feel good, doesn't it?

Ohhhhhhh! Such a big girl! I’m glad Audrey has a name that makes nicknaming difficult lol, although I do love Elly! Wish you were here!

I like Elise, but I’ll use Elly if she wants me to.
So, how was, um, Elly’s first day of school anyway?!
Yes, very big stuff. I was always Danny until the day in sixth grade when my teacher (she was also the principal) and the phys-ed teacher (he and the janitor were the only men in the place) took me aside and told me Danny is a boy’s name. They said I was going to be a young man soon, so I must start being Dan.
