Today was Elise’s first appointment with the urologist. They’ve put her on a daily low-dose antibiotic to help control infection (Sound familliar Sarah?) and they have also prescribed a daily low-dose laxative powder to be mixed with 8oz liquid. They think the recent poopsmear problem is a symptom of constipation and that being constipated can be affecting her bladder also. They believe she is most likely experiencing bladder/sphincter dysfunction which explains why she can’t “hold it,” and we are to go back to the frequently scheduled potty break “timer routine.” In six weeks she will have another ultrasound to make sure that nothing has changed or been missed and she will have a VCUG (which I think was one of the last things we tried, mom, that you said was so painful to watch.) and then a follow-up with the urologist. The doctor today acknowledged that some of these problems could in fact be hereditary which I was fairly sure we’d been told when I was going through all this that they were not, but maybe I’m wrong on that. Anyway, Elise made it through the appointment today no problem and she’ll start her meds tomorrow so we’ll see what kinds of changes may occur.

The good news is that you are on your way for an answer and that you can be on the look-out for this problem with Elena and then further down the road, Elise and Elena’s possible chilren. I hope that they get something figured out soon!
